President's Report

Friends,

First, let me say how honored I am to be your President this year.  I love ISES and take this job very seriously.  Since I joined the chapter, I have made amazing vendor relationships and life-long friendships.  I truly think of ISES as my family, and I look forward to an exciting year leading this organization.

We have had a fantastic 2014-2015 year.  As the ISES year ended, and we start the new 2015-2016 year, I just first want to say thank you to all of you that put your time and effort into this incredible organization. From the committee members, our amazing sponsors throughout the year, those that rave to others about ISES, and to our wonderful leaders on our ISES Board. Thank you!  Thank you, Jason Ryan, our immediate Past President, and to all of our 2014-2015 Board for all of your hard work you put into our chapter over this last year.   We were challenged by Jason to Connect, Collaborate & Create: To Connect with our peers in the event industry and build strong relationships, to Collaborate with those peers on an intellectual level as well as in the events themselves in order to Create amazing things. Jason, on behalf of the ISES Indiana Chapter and Board, we would like to thank you for your leadership and your vision.  This past year, we as a board spent a lot of time and energy on providing great programs, education and networking opportunities and all the things that go along with putting that all together.  The ISES Indiana board has been making steps towards saving the chapter money, streamlining processes, and most importantly creating more benefits for our members.  It is never perfect and we will continue to learn what works and what doesn’t work.  We will build upon that structure and foundation we had from previous leaders again this year.

At the July 9th kickoff event at the brand new Biltwell, I gave a “State of the Chapter Address,” so I wanted to share this information with our membership and prospective members.  This year, my goal for all of us is to get back to being a TEAM.   I want that team to be formed internally within our board, our chapter and throughout the community.  I want to work together to create that team mentality of working together for the common goals, helping each other when needed and having fun while we work hard. That is why, this year’s ISES Indiana theme is TEAM ISES.

A Few Highlights from the TEAM ISES Indiana Chapter Goals for this year:

  •                Programming is fresh and fun for the 2015-2016 year! We are going to keep the programs that have been successful and remove and restructure those programs that need refreshed.  We will continue to bring in more great and national speakers to make sure education and programing will be a huge part of our organization.  If you do have ideas or what to help with our upcoming programming schedule or become a sponsor, please contact our programs team:  programs@ileaindiana.com

  •                Quarterly FREE member events are continuing!  This past year, ISES Indiana hosted quarterly free member events.  These events were originally started thanks to our 2011-2012 membership growth of over 25% from the previous year.  We were one of three chapters that attained this exciting increase, so we were recognized by ISES International and given $2500.  With our moving from a full management company to hiring a chapter administrator (Thank you, Carrie O’Brien!) we have continued to save an estimated $600-800/per month with this change.  Your ISES Indiana Board decided to put this money towards our members and celebrate all that our members do.  We created the free member events that are free to our ISES members.  This past year we had the wonderful Free Member Events:  1) October Evening at The Rathskeller  2) December Jingle Mingle Event at D’Amore  3) March Lunch at Bearcats at the Stutz Building  4) June Evening at Scotty’s Brewhouse Downtown.  The events have been a huge success and a lot of fun.  Well, thanks to our continued cost-saving efforts, we are continuing the Free Member Events for the 2015-2016 year!

  •                The Member-to-Member benefit program will be promoted more.  While we get great National benefits for being an ISES member, ISES Indiana wanted to create an even something special for our members.  This year, we are continuing a benefit program that allows ISES Indiana members to give other members benefits and/or discounts.  Our goal is to help grow your ISES ROI and your client base.

  •                Restructuring of our Board!  All of the Board of Director positions are now a part of a team.  We have moved the “Director of Chapter Advancement” into the second “Director of Communications” Role as a part of the Communications Team.  The Director of Strategic Partnerships will work as a part of the Programs Team.  We are revising our board dynamics in order to create a team atmosphere where we will support one another.  We want to work with one another and bring each other up.  We want to remember why we originally joined ISES in the first place.  To stay informed, be educated, to network and to be involved with the event community.

  •                The position of Director of Strategic Partnership will work as a part of our Programs Team.  As a part of restructuring the board, this position will be a part of the Programs Team and work hand-in-hand with our board and industry leaders to continue to build upon those relationships.  Continuing to grow our partnerships and relationships with organizations like Visit Indy, MPI, ABC, PWG, Wedding Day Magazine and other organizations throughout the state is imperative to the growth of our organization and event industry.

  •                We increased our ISES Communications Team!  We added the second Director of Communications role, so that we can really concentrate on our communications team and put our best foot forward.  We will actively post on social media with Facebook posts, Twitter and adding Instagram into the mix.  We are continuing our “ISES Indiana Members Only” Facebook Page as a great resource for our members.  We are going to have our quarterly newsletter return and are excited for showcasing our chapter with our expertise in the event industry.

  •                Our Teams have put together Three-Year-Goals!  The Membership, Programs & Communications Teams have all come up with our goals for our ISES Indiana Team over the next few years.  As we have board positions change from one person to another over the years, we have put together goals to help guide our leaders over the next few years as a board.  This year we have a have quite a few new faces to our board in our Director roles.  It is a very dynamic group of people and it will be exciting to see all the new ideas and collaborations coming together.  These goals will help our teams for the next few years.

  •                The Legacy Lunch will continue this year!  There have been so many great leaders in our industry that have built this chapter to what it is today.  It was an honor getting to share some of their stories in our recent 1st Inaugural Legacy Lunch in June at the Columbia Club.  Thank you to our Past Presidents and Board for making the event such an amazing success.  The Legacy Lunch was a day of sharing our past, showcasing our present and strategizing for the future.  We look forward to continuing the Legacy Lunch and having our chapter's present and preceding leaders come together to make our chapter's legacy stronger.   I am humbled to share this title with our past ISES Indiana Presidents and I hope that I can live up to their legacy.

  •                ISES Indiana is the real deal!  ISES Indiana is committed to showing off to our peers, all while helping other Chapters grow.  From programming, website, social media and our membership, trust me, we are not your average Chapter.  The Board has made a commitment to sharing our changes with other Chapters through the ISES Community, and we are excited to announce we will be submitting in for Chapter of the Year for the Esprit awards in 2016.

While this is a long letter, I believe the Board owes it to the membership and prospective members to be forthright with goals and changes.  Throughout the next year you will see some fresh ideas on programs, unique concepts, and opportunities to get you involved and being a part of the Team, in whatever capacity that may mean for you.  We want everyone to feel welcome to come to our events, helping where you can and we want the ISES name and Team to be recognized as the leaders we are within our industry.  Our goal is to add even more value to the ISES membership.  We as a chapter could not offer such great programs and benefits without our members getting involved by becoming event sponsors and volunteering to take on leadership roles.  I am so glad I became involved in the organization.  If I had not joined the PACE Committee and then eventually the board, I would not have built the same strength in my business that I have today.  I am humbled and extremely honored to have gotten to be a part of some very spectacular events along the way, because of my involvement with ISES and formed lasting friendships and relationships within our membership.  You can’t sit back and stay silent.  If you’re not a member yet, get the membership.  If you aren’t involved in a committee, get involved.  If you have a membership, but don’t come to the events, come get connected.  The time is now.  What are you waiting for?

We are looking forward to a fantastic year at ISES Indiana.  Thank you for allowing me to serve as your president.  We will succeed in making this a fun year and bring along all of our ISES board, committee contributors, chapter members and guests along for the fantastic journey.   The more you get involved, the more connections you make, the stronger business and network of colleagues you meet, the more relationships and friendships you will create.  Create an amazing Team for our event community and yourself . . . TEAM ISES!

Sincerely yours,

Kristin Hornberger

Mt Everest. Without question, the most daunting wonders of physical and mental challenges on the planet. Just the idea of this mountain's sheer power captivates people but yet only few have survived the climb and have told the story.

Now imagine you are at basecamp…looking up at this, god-made, monument to glory and strength. Through vision, planning, funding, teamwork, training, etc., you've made it to this point…basecamp. Now it's time to meet your challenge. Now it's time to gather your team, get your equipment on, and take every small step towards the largest goal of your life. The thing is…..you're really sitting at your desk, staring at your calendar…knowing…your own Everest is looking down at you….waiting for your first step. What is that step? Is it vision?... planning?... communication?... teamwork?...etc.? How do you take what you have, throw it on your back, and head towards your goal?

Through more than 20 years of experience, Albert will help you realize your Everest, how to get the traction you need to get up your mountain, plant your flag, and most importantly, come home to the true glory…sharing your adventures with the ones you love. Albert has flown more than 260 combat missions, evacuated 350+ patients, worked with our military's best; Navy SEALS, Army Special Forces, Army Rangers, and supported thousands more in the Global War on Terrorism. He has consulted deploying National Guard/Reserve Service Members and even set boots on ground in Afghanistan to further consult leaders in the heat of their mission to continue America's vision. He has participated in events that have saved hundreds of people and even Medal of Honor award-winning missions in the most austere conditions our military has ever faced.

Albert, through his personal stories of combat time as a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) helicopter pilot, will discuss Vision, the Golden Hour of Trauma, Teamwork, Control, and Chaos Planning to help you determine where you’ve been, where you are, and how to get where you want to be on your path to planting your flag of success.
