Meet Katie McHone Jones

Crystal Grave Founder of Snappening.com

What is your title and position at your current company? Events Manager at The Scottish Rite Cathedral
What does your company do? How is it different than others like it?

The Scottish Rite is an event venue. The Scottish Rite was built between 1927 to 1929 for 2.5 million dollars. Our building is deeply rooted in history and we have the most breathtaking event spaces in Indianapolis. At the time of its dedication, it was named one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.

How many years have you been in the industry?

Professionally since 2009.

What was your very first job?

I worked at Dairy Queen and absolutely LOVED it. I worked there through high school and college.

What lead you in into the event industry?

I have an extremely large Catholic family and attended many weddings and family dinners when I was young.  I  truly fell in love with making people happy and creating fun events.

Why did you decide to join ISES?  I wanted to be associated with the best and the brightest in the events industry.

What are you looking to gain out of our ISES membership and how can we help you achieve that?   I want to gain contacts and make friends that can help my produce amazing events year after year.

What is your most memorable event? Why?  There are just too many to name; however, I did a Disney themed wedding for a bride that was just delightful. I am a secret Disney fanatic so I was singing along to all of the songs in my head and enjoyed every moment of the wedding.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? My favorite artist is Dale Chihuly and I have been collecting glass since I was in 8th grade.

If you were not in the events industry, what would be your dream job?

Make-up artist!

Meet Kile Spotts

Crystal Grave Founder of Snappening.com

What is your title and position at your current company?

I am the Wedding Sales Specialist at the Indiana Roof Ballroom
What does your company do? How is it different than others like it?

We are a banquet facility and event venue. It is different in a sense that it is a historic site in downtown Indianapolis. We were established in 1927 and continue to host events of all varieties; weddings and corporate functions alike.

How many years have you been in the industry?

This is just my 2nd year!

What was your very first job?

My very first job was working at a sandwich shop when I was 15. I loved that job!

What lead you in into the event industry?

I think it was highly influenced by my peers. I always heard that it would be a fun industry to get in to, but while I was in college, I was still on the fence about exactly what I wanted to do within the industry. It wasn't until my internship with the Indiana State Museum that I discovered my love for weddings. The hands-on experience I got while doing that internship was invaluable and it is the reason I was able to truly decide that weddings were for me!

Why did you decide to join ISES?  My great friend Erica, who was my internship coordinator at the Museum, was the one who got me to join. I had always heard about ISES in college but I never knew the true benefits to the organization until Erica took me to my first member event. I was immediately embraced by amazing and established professionals in the industry and it was very encouraging as a student member and intern. ISES has helped me create such a great network of colleagues and friends. We support each other and especially as a young person in this industry, that means the world to me as I develop and grow into a more seasoned professional.

What are you looking to gain out of our ISES membership and how can we help you achieve that? Well, I am the Student Liaison for our ISES chapter so my goal this year is to get a lot more involvement from the students! I would ideally like to see more programs and workshops catered to students who will be interning at some point and eventually entering the industry. I would like to see more students use ISES as a way to develop professionally.

What is your most memorable event? Why?

My most memorable event would have to be my first ISES luncheon. I was so excited to begin networking and it was my first luncheon as a professional.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? Most people don't know that I collect sunglasses! I have over 60 pair; all different styles but mostly vintage!

If you were not in the events industry, what would be your dream job?

My dream job would be a calligrapher. I love that art form!really am doing my dream job!
