Event Re-Cap:February Wedding Luncheon with Sabrina Hans

EVENT RE-CAP: February Wedding Luncheon

February 17, 2016

Thank you to all who attended our February Wedding luncheon! We would also like to thank our host, Omni Severin Indianapolis, for providing us with a gorgeous venue!  It was a great event filled with wonderful networking among colleagues, friends and guests, scrumptious appetizers and a delightful lunch, a signature drink, and one of the most sought out wedding planners in the industry, Sabrina Hans.

This ISES Indiana event started with networking among event specialists and their guests followed by a wonderful spread of appetizers and drinks.  Thank you to Chair Covers & Linens, KB Design, Nathaniel Edmunds Photography, Bokay Florist, The Mintbox, and Atmospheres Indy for everything that you provided to make this event what it was - stunning!

As the lunch progressed, we received a wonderful education on South Asian wedding events from Sabrina Hans.  Sabrina Hans was the pioneer in the Midwest as the First South Asian Wedding Consultant to launch SHE - Sabrina Hans Events in 2002.  Sabrina holds a degree from Loyola & Columbia College where she studied Communications and Design.  These strengths led Sabrina to hold a position at The Fairmont Hotel, Chicago as a Senior Catering Sales Manager where her focus was to strengthen the South Asian Market be it:  Weddings, Galas, Charities, Celebrities & Dignitaries.  Sabrina has planned and executed over 1000+ events.

Sabrina was an exceptional speaker and her events that she shared with the group where amazing.  There was so much information to learn about the South Asian culture and Sabrina's planning skills for those events where that of a master! Hope to see our ISES members on March 16th at at the FORUM Conference & Events Center for our Speed Networking Event!  For now, enjoy the pictures!

Member Spotlight: Scott Evans with Evans Audio-Visual

FEBRUARY MEMBER SPOTLIGHT :

Scott Evans

Owner

Evans Audio-Visual

Evans Audio-Visual

  1.      What is your title and position at your current company?

I am the owner of Evans Audio Visual

  1.      What does your company do? How is it different than others like it?

We are a full service rental, staging and production company.  We create and produce almost everything in house.  We do it all: Sound, Lighting, Staging, Video, Props, Scenic Arts, Event Branding, Signs, Carpet, Carpentry, Trade Show/Expo, Design, Welding, Fabrication and then some.

  1.      How many years have you been in the industry?

I have been this industry since 1977, in some way or another.

  1.      What was your very first job?

My very first job was as an apprentice baker, seems I was allergic to the flour. My first industry job I was a DJ at an under 21 club 1976, I also introduced them to lighting.

  1.      What lead you in into the event industry?

What lead me into the event industry was the ACTION, CREATIVITY, MUSIC and FUN!!!!  My DJ business had over 21 DJs, plus we booked out a lot of the Indianapolis radio personalities.

  1.      Why did you decide to join ISES?

I was drawn to ISES by my good friend “Annie O” and Gary Bravard.  They said people would love what we did, and it would be a good opportunity to meet other planners, I was hooked.

  1.      What are you looking to gain out of our ISES membership and how can we help you achieve that?

I really gain a lot of insight into trends and get to talk shop with like-minded event people.  ISES people get to do some pretty fun things.

  1.      What is your most memorable event? Why?

My most memorable event is an annual event I do for a children’s hospital, creating a prom for the kids that might never see there prom. It makes me tear up thinking about all the fun and memories we are helping create.

  1.      What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

The one thing most people don’t know about me is that I am getting married in October of 2016 to the most wonderful girl in the world.  She was the first girl I ever asked out in 1977, that I didn’t know.  She had me at HELLO!! It’s a long funny story, and we tell it best together.

      10.   If you were not in the event industry, what would be your dream job?

I have the dream job for me that’s for sure.  If I had to do something else it would be to fly helicopters and jets, or be a professional baseball player.

      11. Feel free to add other information that will help get to know your business better.

Our company has morphed over the years and developed additional event related divisions: Wow-Factors Event Rental and Décor and Wow-Factors Expo, and it all started from our DJ Business, Party Time Sound, I started in 1977.  I am always looking for talented people who can think outside the box and don’t want ordinary lives.  This industry is rough and demands a lot, and sometimes takes even more.  I wake up every day and love my job, and can’t wait to see my next project.

Member Spotlight: Lori Witherell with Thomas Caterers of Distinction

FEBRUARY MEMBER SPOTLIGHT :

Lori Witherell

Event Designer

Thomas Caterers of Distinction

Thomas Caterers of Distinction

  • What is your title and position at your current company?

Event Designer, Thomas Caterers of Distinction

  • What does your company do? How is it different than others like it?

We are a scratch, gourmet caterer.  Our vision is to create memories that last a lifetime through a positive planning experience, innovative design, quality cuisine and exceptional service.

  • How many years have you been in the industry?

3 years.

  • What was your very first job?

My first job was bussing tables at the Courtyard Café. It was a small café attached to the Southport Antique Mall.

  • What lead you in into the event industry?

I had a neighbor who used to be the venue manager at the convention center in Hopkinsville, KY.  She told me stories about what she did.  I fell in love with the industry by listening to her and decided to pursue this career.

  • Why did you decide to join ISES?

Everything in life boils down to relationships.  Joining ISES provided opportunities to build those relationships with fellow event professionals.

  • What are you looking to gain out of our ISES membership and how can we help you achieve that?

I am looking to gain relationships that can lead to better communication and trust at events.

  • What is your most memorable event? Why?

My most memorable event was a wedding on the 4th of July in 2015.  I completely fell in love with the entire family!  It was a GORGEOUS wedding at D’Amore with a memorable fireworks show, beautiful decorations, and a strong vendor team of ISES members.  This event had many different elements that kept us busy the entire time, but when you love what you do and the people you are working with, it does not feel like work.

  • What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

My real name is Valorie.  My mom “compromised” with my dad by naming me that, but decided to call me Lori, from the center of Valorie, for short.  I have only been called Valorie when I am in trouble and on the first day of school.  Do NOT call me Val.

  • If you were not in the event industry, what would be your dream job?

If I were not in the event industry, I think I would get into real estate.  I am fascinated by that whole process.
